PR Students,
This has been an interesting week in New Jersey. We now have a Republican governor and the Yankees won the World Series. Many people continue to speculate why and how a Republican could have won in a liberal-leaning state.
On Sunday please read either the New York Times or the New Jersey Star Ledger? You need to find an article (politics, local, national, education news) you find interesting, insightful, upsetting or amusing. Please bring a copy of the article to class.
On Tuesday, you are going to respond to the article in the form of an op-ed. "The whole point of an Op-Ed is to illuminate the issue in a new way. It isn't just opinion; it's an opinion grounded in facts, data, and research (Henry Miller, COO, Goodman Media)." Chose a topic you feel passionately about.
In preparation for writing your op-ed, please read the op-ed section of the paper you select. There is no better way to learn that to read the examples appearing in the paper. We've already discussed op-ed in class, for a review read chapter 7 of your textbook.
Remember an op-ed is based on facts, data and research. The assignment requires you to find out additional information about the topic. Feel free to bring your research and data with you to Tuesday's class.
I look forward to discussing your chosen article on Tuesday.
Dr. Persson
